For our second wedding anniversary, my husband Marc and I treated ourselves to a three-nights-four-days relaxation at White Beach in Boracay, which is part of the province of Aklan. Boracay is famous for its beaches—white crystal sand and clear blue waters—and White Beach is the most popular of all.
No wonder it’s a popular tourist destination. Even in non-summer months, people still flock to Boracay; some for its sea-side night life, others for its beautiful beaches. Marc and I went there during the last week of November (which isn’t supposed to be peak season), and yet we still saw quite a number of people at the beach.
White Beach is one of Boracay’s primary tourist destinations. It’s over four kilometers long of white sand beach lined with restaurants and hotels. You’ll find low-cost hotels and lodges along Boat Station 1, while on Station 2 lodging is a bit pricier but nearest to most of the establishments and Boracay’s D’Mall. Station 3 is the place to stay if you’re looking for a quiet vacation—big and expensive hotels are found there.
I was fortunate to visit Boracay thrice this year during the off-peak seasons—January, November and December. I haven’t gone there during summer, when people really flock to the beach. It’s not really true that going to the beach during the “winter” months is a bad idea. On the contrary, the weather’s pretty ok if you’re just there to enjoy the beach. Snorkeling might not be a good idea—the current can be a bit strong, it’s hard to really appreciate Boracay’s beautiful coral life while you’re trying to fight the current :)
You can expect a few showers here and there, but the weather can be so unpredictable. You can have rains in the evening, then a sunny morning the next day. That’s what we had last January and November. Just before Christmas, weather in Boracay was windy and there was an overcast and some showers. Yet, we were still graced with afternoons sunny enough to take a dip in the sea or gorge ourselves silly from the restaurants along White Beach.
SEAIR flies regularly to Boracay via the Caticlan airport. You can reserve your tickets through the SEAIR call center +632 849.0100 or log on to the SEAIR website to reserve online.
